Welcome to Year 4

Our Spring term topic is the World of Africa! Our first text is Journey to Jo’burg. It is a story about love, commitment and the flowering of the human spirit against the background of South Africa's apartheid. Our writing will focus on persuasive texts, narratives, poetry and reports. Our grammar focus will be on the present perfect tense, apostrophes, speech (direct and indirect) and determiners. We will practise homophones, words ending with ‘ure’ sound and statutory words in spellings.Our geography focus this half term will begin discovering why Africa is known as a continent of contrasts. We will explore significant lines of latitude and recognise how environments can change.

 Our focus in Science is on animals, living things, classification and ecosystems. In Maths this term we will be learning strategies to multiply and divide larger numbers, understand area as part of our measurement unit and explore fractions.In RE we will find out why festivals are important to religious communities We will also learn about responsibility and blogging in ICT use 2code to create and debug simple programmes.
