To love, learn and grow together

Year 1

Welcome to Year 1

In Year One, our brand new topic is all about the UK! We will be doing in depth explorations of each of the countries and will learn about their differing human and physical features. Learning opportunities will include- making our own tartan patterns; creating a ‘Window into Wales’ using a shoebox; and making our own version of the National flower of England- the rose.

In History we will learn about major UK events within living memory. This will include the development of the NHS, how education has evolved over time, as well as immigration and changes to British cities following the Second World War.

Our writing will be inspired by ‘Jim and the Beanstalk’ by Raymond Briggs, as well as ‘Finn Macool and the Giant’s Causeway’.

In Art we will learn and take inspiration from the artist LS Lowry and will work on imitating his distinct style.

In Science we will be learning about seasonal change. This will involve us going on observational walks around the school grounds looking for signs of the seasons changing. We will discuss the clothing we would need for different weather types, as well as what things we might spot within nature during each time of the year.
