Primary School

To love, learn and grow together

Reception Class

Our new topic is called

Glitter and Glow

What a busy term it has been in Reception so far! The children have enjoyed exploring their learning through exciting texts such as Funny Bones, Night Monkey, Day Monkey and The Owl who was Afraid of the Dark. Through their love of books they have been inspired to write labels, describe characters and are beginning to use their amazing writing skills to write letters! I am very proud of their perseverance and determination with their writing.

This topic allows the children to explore things that sparkle, glitter, glow, reflect, shine and twinkle. Through the expressive arts and design area of development  the children have created beautiful Rangoli patterns, bright and sparkly firework designs and I am sure there will be more learning opportunities that have glitter involved in the run up to Christmas!

In the PSED area of development we will continue to focus on taking turns, sharing and helping to tidy up, building self confidence and behaving appropriately. We will also look at team work and will encourage the children to work harmoniously with friends. We will be developing the children’s independence in putting on coats, hats and gloves for outside adventures!

To support our physical development we will continue our weekly sessions where we will be moving to music and looking at developing control of our larger movements by moving in different ways. Outside, we will explore our gross motor skills by taking part in a variety of 'multiskills' activities! We will continue to focus on developing fine motor skills and hand-eye co-ordination through threading, cutting and sensory based finger gym activities..

Our values this term are love and generosity. We will be discussing the meaning of the words and looking at what this means especially at Christmas time.
