Harbury C of E
To love, learn and grow together
Our new topic this term is ‘All Things Bright and Beautiful’. We have started this exciting topic by learning all about animals. We used our imagination to create and describe our own unique animal after reading the book’ Flip Flap Pets’. There was great excitement in the reception class when we discovered our role play area had turned into ‘Harbury Vets and Pets’. Through our role play we have been learning how to care for lots of different animals. We even had a special virtual visitor, it was Woody, Mrs James’s dog! We thought of different questions and listened carefully as we found out all about our four-legged friend.
The next part of our topic is one we were very excited about- Minibeasts! We loved listening to the story ‘Snail Trail’. We created our own story maps and our learning really came alive when we found a snail in the outdoor classroom. This gave us the inspiration to find out more information about minibeasts, we used non-fiction books to assist us in our discovery.
As our topic draws to a close at the end of term our learning will be based around growing. What better way to inspire our learning than by reading ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’. We will be estimating with magic beans, growing and measuring plants and exploring another fantastic role play area- I wonder where our learning will take us in the flower shop at the bottom of the garden?
