Harbury C of E
To love, learn and grow together
All Things Bright and Beautiful
Our new topic this term is ‘All Things Bright and Beautiful’. We have started this exciting topic by learning all about animals. We used our imagination to create and describe our own unique animal after reading the book’ Flip Flap Pets’. There was great excitement in the reception class when we discovered our role play area had turned into ‘Harbury Vets and Pets’. Through our role play we have been learning how to care for lots of different animals. This gave us lots of opportunities to explore and understand our school values this term which are Thankfulness and Friendship.
The next part of our topic is one we are really excited about- Minibeasts! We have already listened to the story ‘Snail Trail’. We created our own story maps and our learning really came alive when we found a snail in the outdoor classroom. This gave us the inspiration to find out more information about minibeasts, we used non-fiction books to assist us in our discovery. We are looking forward to creating minibeast hotels and we are eagerly awaiting some caterpillars to visit our classroom. We will be creating a habitat for them and it will be exciting to find out about their life-cycle too.
As our topic draws to a close at the end of term our learning will be based around growing. What better way to inspire our learning than by reading ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’. We will be estimating with magic beans, growing and measuring plants and exploring another fantastic role play area.
