Year 6

Welcome to

 This Autumn Term, Year 6 are focusing on the topic:

The Tudors

This topic will last for the whole of the Autumn term. We will focus on key events and figures within the Tudor period and the establishment of the Catholic Church during the reign of King Henry VIII. We will also study the daily life of people in the Tudor era, entertainment and crime and punishment. 

In Science we will learn about properties and changes of materials.

Our school values for the first half of the Autmn term are Love (for our neighbour) and Respect (for others, new class, surroundings.) We will focus on this as part of whole school act of worship and also in class.  

In maths, we will focus on the following topic areas: place value; addition, subtraction, multiplication and division; fractions and converting units with a focus on measures. In English, we will focus on the text Treason by Berlie Doherty. We will be using this text as a basis for various styles of writing, including historical narrative and diary entries. We will also focus on playscripts, poetry and non-chronlogical reports. 

In RE during the first half term, we will be focusing on the key question: ‘Why do some people believe in God?’ and in Autumn 2 we will focus on ‘If God is everywhere, why go to a place of worship?’

 As part of our learning in DT, we will design and create and our own Tudor gong vehicles. In Art, we will analyse the painting ‘Field of the Cloth of Gold’ and also study portraiture and create interpretations in the style of the portrait artist Paul Cezanne. 

Our computing topic this term is centred on online safety during Autumn 1 and spreadsheets and Excel formulas during Autumn 2. 

 In PE, we will focus on fitness and netball during the first half of the term and then move onto volleyball and swimming.
