To love, learn and grow together
This term our topic is
This half term we will be stepping back in time to learn all about the dinosaurs! We will learn about the three time periods of the Mesozoic era and the types of dinosaurs that were around during these times. We will also learn about how the world and environment has changed from the beginning of the Triassic period to the Cretaceous.
As part of this topic, we will compare and contrast the continents when dinosaurs existed with the present day and use simple fieldwork and observational skills to study the Geography of our school and its grounds.
In History, we will explore the local history of the Blue Lias and the Harbury Quarry discovery.
In Science we will be learning about the differences between carnivores, herbivores and omnivores by looking at dinosaurs’ teeth! We will also carry out an investigation related to different materials to learn how fossils were formed.
In English we will be using the text ‘Tyrannosaurus Drip’ by Julia Donaldson as inspiration for our writing, as well as ‘Grandad’s Secret Giant’ by David Litchfield. We will be writing for a range of different purposes including narrative and non-fiction.
In Art we will explore different printing patterns and will create our own printing blocks inspired by different dinosaur footprints.
In RE we will be thinking about 'Why does Easter matter to Christians?’ as well as gaining a deeper understanding about our values of Trust and Courage.
