Reception Class

Welcome to Reception

Welcome to the first term in reception at Harbury School.

This term the topic is Marvellous Me! Within this topic, the children will be learning about what makes us marvellous and unique and they will be finding out about each other and their families. During this term the children will focus on their personal and social skills as they settle into life at Harbury School. They will begin to develop new friendships and become familiar with their new routines.

The children will have many opportunities to develop their speaking and listening skills through circle time, story time and an abundance of ‘busy learning’ activities. They will be encouraged to listen when someone is talking and to take turns when speaking to develop conversation.

The children will become familiar with a range of mathematical activities which including counting, recognising number and singing songs and number rhymes. We incorporate maths into our day whenever we can such as counting how many children are in the line, sharing counters, even during snack time!

It is with excitement that the children begin their reading journey this term in reception. They will take part in daily phonics lessons and can enjoy a range of books with their friends in our reading area.

Outdoor learning is a very important part of the day in reception. The children are able to explore the outdoor area throughout the day and complete a variety of challenges.
